Event Description : ART TALK "Ecological Art, What was that?"
Samples from Italy from the Sixties to the Present
A lecture presentation by Dr. Martina Cognati, Curator & Art Historian, Milan (Italy)
Conceptualized by ZERO GRAVITY
Ecological Issues started to attract artists' attention in the Sixties in UK, US and Europe as well as in Italy. In the "Arte Povera" circle, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto and their friend Piero Gilardi developed a strong interest towards nature and its protection; actions followed aimed to increase ecological and social responsibility as well as to raise shared consciousness towards its problems and needs. They created artworks characterized by originality, certain sensitivity and, often, a tendency towards interaction. Piero Gilardi recently opened also PAV, a garden and lab devoted to the interactions between art and ecology. More recently an artistic duo, Caretto and Spagna, dedicated all their practice to nature, working in an interactive way and in a complex manner, which tackle the very natural process and developing in interaction with man and society. Two of their projects were made in India.
