Event Description : EXHIBITION "Exploring Lines" a trio art show by Ms. Neeraja Divate, Ms. Gitanjali Kashyap and Ms. Ritu Mehra

Exploring Lines attempts to reflect 3 journeys in shared space and time presenting works of three contemporary women artists, featuring works on paper and canvas expressed sensitively, exploring various media like charcoal, graphite, ink, oil and acrylics.

It is the artists’ mirrors experiential journeys of these distinctive and sensitive artists. It convinces to see the beauty of life with a unique prism and step out of the indolence and to live the moments of happiness. The show attempts to perceive beyond the tangible and extract the finite out of the finite. The intent of the show is to present art that is cathartic and vivid, compelling the viewer to connect with the subtle imagery.”

Thoughts and emotions wander onto the surface in the form of meandering lines, both bold yet delicate, conveying sensitivity, confidence and dynamism. Literally and metaphorically, the ‘line’ serves as the artists’ fingerprint and tool for conveying feelings of space, form and expression.

In her charcoal and graphite drawings, artist Gitanjali Kashyap uses the subtle symmetry generated by rhythmic movements in creation. She unites schematic geometric forms to create changing fields of visions often by the use of repeat imagery and austere monochromatic abstraction. She believes in the potentialities of visual texture which is usually a very significant element of the artwork.

Artist Neeraja Divate’s works are based on the underlying philosophy “Details create the big picture” - says Neeraja Divate. The work is textured as a result of pressed effect on an empty space in a determined direction with delicate strokes that bring to the forefront the concealed layers of one’s personality. According to her, texture reveals the personality and individual technicality of the artist and to her, it is a window to her own aesthetic experiences.

Continuing on the same lines of thought, artist Ritu Mehra creates a textured surface on canvas, often with lines and marks that symbolize the infinite casual connections that make the microcosm of life. This weaving together of the subject and its context is quite like interlaced threads that render a fabric. Texture has a major role to play in her artworks. She considers herself a liberal experimenter and likes to create unique textures through various mediums.

For all 3 artists texture is more than technique, it is more than an ambiguous superficial haze,it is the abacus on which their works have an impressionist yet deeply rhythmic reflection that draws us into its maw and its very being. In a world where many artists think abstraction is only about colour and intensity of line, these 3 artists present deep dialogues into the dictates of abstraction’s inner realms. This is why texture is indeed vital and deeply fundamental to their act of creation. The process of their abstracted pilgrimage is built on the very foundation of how they handle texture on the different mediums that explore.
