Event Description : School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University Invites You for a Dance Demonstraton/workshop “Ancient echoes in contemporary creations” by Sashar Zarif.
Sashar Zarif's creative journey has taken him across 34 countries over the past two
decades, culminating in a creative approach he calls “Moving Memories” - a nomadic exploration of the old and the new, integrating dance, Music, and storytelling.
His dance making is based on contemporary exploration, and, at the same time, is an outcome of his experience of dance traditions of Azerbaijan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kirgizstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and Mongolian dance traditions such as Sama, Munojot, Khoarazm style of dance, Meykhana and Zikri Khanjar. This session introduces Zarif’s dance experiments with traditional and contemporary artistic practices, in particular, dance and music - as a result of his own experiences of cultures of Western and Central Asia.
