Event Description : MUSIC : Swaralaya presents "Kishori Amonkar – A Tribute"

Swaralaya pays it homage to the legendary vocalist Vidushi Kishori Amonkar by organizing a classical music recital by two of her disciples. Her senior disciple Nandini Bedekar and her granddaughter Tejashree Amonkar will be participating in the programme. 

Accompanied on Tabla by Vinod Lele and on Harmonium by Vinay Mishra. 

Honoured with Padmavibhushan and Padmabhusan Awards, Kishori Amonkar (1932-2017) was the foremost exponent of Jaipur Gharana. Swaralaya also honoured her with it Swaralyapuraskaram in 2016. Though trained under several gurus and gharanas, Kishori created her unique style of vocal music with great stress on melody. 

Nandini Bedekar
An artiste of great depth & sincerity, Nandini Bedekar is gifted with deep and sonorous voice. Born in ‘Ved Shastra Sampanna’ scholar family of Panshikar, Nandini has been gifted studious nature and analytical vision. Her father, a renowned scholar & orator Daji Panshikar realized her inclination towards music and took her at the age of fifteen to Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar.
Nandini was fortunate to have Guru like Smt. Kishori Amonkar who has enriched the traditional style of Jaipur-Atrouli Gharana with her own distinctive contribution and whose voice as well as singing has deep meditative touch. Nandini was tutored initially for twelve years by ‘Gurukul Parampara’ (staying with the Guru for entire period of learning). This has been followed by daily lengthy & rigorous ‘talim’ under the strict supervision of Kishori till today.
Nandini was also fortunate to have guidance from Gaantapaswini Mogubai Kurdikar who has nurtured Gayakee of Jaypur Gharana of Ustad Alladiya Khan in its true & pure form. While revealing the secrets of her own style of singing, Smt. Kishoriji also made Nandini to learn Bharatmunee’s Natyashastra, Ras -shastraa, Kavya-shastra and many more ancient Granthas so as to get not mere information but the real ‘Gyan’ of all Art-forms & Literature which enable her to contribute in the book ‘Swararth-ramani’ written by Kishori Amonkar.
Since last eighteen years, Nandini has been accompanied Kishoriji in her concerts all over India as well as abroad. Her voice, style of singing & dedication to music has been appreciated all over.
As a solo vocal performer, Nandini has performed in many music conferences and She renders Khayal Gayaki & Bhajans with equal ease. Creation of atmosphere of Raga as per the Raga-Bhav, tunefulness & eye of purity are the characteristics of her singing, by which Nandini inspired hope amongst the discerning connoisseurs that she has a bright future ahead.

Tejashree Amonkar 
Born on the fifth day of May, Tejashree grew up in an ambience of Taal and Sur in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Mumbai. She has completed her Advance Diploma in Fashion Design and has also worked as a designer and fashion illustrator for leading brands and studios in Mumbai.
However, the true passion evolving within her since childhood propelled her slowly towards the great dynasty of Indian Classical Music. This very genetic inheritance overtook teenage career infatuation.
Today, Tejashree has realized that Music is her destiny. As a baby she would cuddle up to her great grandmother, the legendary GaanaTapaswini Late Smt. Mogubai Kurdikar, where she unknowingly absorbed laya, taal and sur.
After curtailing her creative tilt towards Fashion Designing, Tejashree has concentrated her creative aspirations towards music under a guru none other than her grandmother Gaana Saraswati Smt. KishoriAmonkar. With two preceding generations of one of the highest cadres of Indian Classical Vocalists of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana, Tejashree has opted for a not-so- easy profession.

She has set her eyes on following and furthering the invaluable tradition of Hindustani Classical Music.
