About the talk: Dr. Jayaram Poduval is going to talk about caste segregation in Kerala temple architecture: Namaskara Mandapams. It is his doctoral thesis and consists of a case study that explores the caste hierarchy in Kerala
About the Speaker: Dr. Jayaram Poduval is the head of Department of Art history and Aesthetics at the faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He has published extensively on Ajanta, Hampi, Badami and the architecture of Kerala. He has been associated with the writings on Kerala temple architecture and Indian Sculpture in the Encyclopedia of Indian Temple Architecture (AIIS) and Encyclopedia of Sculpture (Fitzroy Dearborn, Chicago). He has also curated many art shows across Delhi, Mumbai and Baroda and was a curatorial consultant for the show of Indian Art, called Chalo India, at Mori Museum, Japan.
