Event Description : OPEN MIC : Leipung: A platform for sharing multiple narratives

“Leipung” is a mound found on roads in localities over which young and old sit and discuss matters of local, national and personal interest. It is the Manipuri version of what is known to us as an 'adda'.

Leipung is a platform for exploring the art of storytelling and connecting people through the art. Select performers will be invited to join the Wari team of Octave Foundation.

We are giving you a theme! The theme for April is that your 5-minute story MUST have some element of MAGIC in it. Standup Comedy is welcome if presented in the form of storytelling.

About the performers: Octave Foundation is an NGO that was established with the idea of
bridging the gaping divide between India’s North Eastern states and the rest of the country by bringing together folk tales, narratives, culture, habits, traditions, simplicities and complexities, words and songs. Growing up in a decade that has witnessed innumerable socio-political conflicts, the founders of the organization recognize that creative arts and performance arts transcend all boundaries by forming a language of their own. To bring people together, which is critical now than ever before, we have to delve deeper into our roots and give platforms of convergence to celebrate ethnic diversities. With this mission, Octave Foundation is attempting to weave the dying art of storytelling and the strong need of cultural convergence to a single platform called Wari. The word ‘Wari’ means ‘story’ in Manipuri language and since its inception in May 2016, nine stories spanning nine different regions have been performed. Wari is an effort to initiate conversations.
