Event Description : Join us for another session of 'बैठक evenings with Sahapedia' with Dr. K.K. Muhammed on the topic 'The thrilling story of the challenging temple conservation in Chambal Valley.'

About the Talk: The Bateshwar group of temples are located deep in the Chambal valley, about 50 kilometers from Gwalior. The ruins of more than 200 temples of the eighth to eleventh century were found lying as if a massive earthquake had reduced them to fragments and rubble. Caught between the Chambal dacoits and later by the mining mafia, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had great difficulty restoring the temple complex. In his talk, Dr K.K. Muhammed will speak of the development of Shiva and Vishnu temples in this region during the early medieval period, and take us along the thrilling journey of the conservation of 80 temples, which he led during his tenure as Superintendent Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India.

About the Speaker: Dr. K.K. Muhammed is a renowned Archaeologist and Former Regional Director (North) of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Some of the major archaeological discoveries by him are the Ibadat Khana at Fatehpur Sikri, Agra and the Buddhist Stupas at Kesariya and Rajgir, Bihar. He headed the transplantation of Kurdi Mahadev temple in Goa and Chubis Avatar temple in Madhya Pradesh. He has carried out extensive restoration work at the Bateshwar Temple Complex in Madhya Pradesh and conservation works in the protected monuments of Delhi and Agra. His recently published book is Njanenna Bharatheeyan (I am Indian).
