Event Description : ART TALK “Frida Khalo, from pain to creative capacity” by Edmundo dos Santos 

As part of 'Plastics Arts and Architecture' Series. 

Synopsis: The talk will be given by the researcher and Art Therapist, Edmundo dos Santos, in which through different clinical cases and artistic projects with groups in a traumatic situation will illustrate how art serves as a medium to transform pain and traumatic situations. The artistic work of internationally recognized Latin American painter Frida Khalo reflects the potential of art, artistic creation in the processes of illness, her works affect aesthetically, leave a mark on the soul of those who contemplate them, stating an aesthetic of pain. Pain is a personal fact, enclosed in the concrete and unrepeatable interior of man and suffering an incommunicable experience, where art, tenderness and imagination plays a fundamental role in the resignification and transformation of existential experience. Throughout the history of art, we have different
examples of artists who in situations of illness, anguish and pain, have used art as a catalyst and transformer of their discomforts. Understanding the meaning of pain is also to understand the meaning of life, is to create a dialogue between art and health. In this way, the professional will reinforce his presentation with an aesthetic and artistic dialogue with Frida Khalo and her experience as an artist and therapist in the accompaniment of pain
processes. 

About the speaker: Edmundo dos Santos has a post-graduate specialization on Art Therapy Transdisciplinary, and a Master of Art therapy Transdisciplinary and Develop life Human in the Institute of Sociology and Applied Psychology at the University of Leuk, and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (Portugal). He has a large experience on art therapy applied to neurological rehabilitation, on technical intervention and community education with young people and childhood, on art therapy applied to rehabilitation of children with trauma and sexual abuse, art therapy for women empowerment. He has curated the project "Art in el Raval in the Body of a Woman" sposored by La Caixa, and the encounter between professionals in the field of arts, social sciences and humanities on "Art, Gender and Identity" held in the Palau de la Virreina
(Barcelona).
