Event Description : FEST : Hindustani Awaaz and Oxford Bookstore Present "Afreen, Afreen" A celebration of Urdu language and literary culture

About the show: “Afreen, Afreen” is a day-long celebration of Urdu literature which is conceptualized and conceived by Rakhshanda Jalil, Founder Hindustani Awaaz.

The event has been conceptualized as a taster’s menu, a sampler, a smorgasbord of the many flavors, voices, themes, tones and topics in Urdu. There will be sessions comprising readings and recitations but mercifully No panel discussion on paper readings on themes as diverse as wit, humour and satire, dissent, erotica, piety, modernism, afsana nigari, etc. The idea is to give young audiences a taste of the many delights contained within the literary culture of Urdu. The event will begin with a jugalbandi – a dramatized reading of the wakhy, whimsical works of Dilawar Figar and will end with a joyous qawaali by young and enthusiastic Dhruv Sangari aka Bilal Chishty.
