TALK "Queer Politics of the Raj" by Dr. Anurima Banerji

With Dr. Navaneetha Mokkil as the Discussant.

Dr. Anurima Banerji, Associate Professor in the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance, is currently a Fellow at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advance Studies.

In her talk she takes a historical look at colonial legal discourse in 19th-century India and analyzes how female dancers, transgender performers, and gay men became symbols of a “queer India” for the British imperial regime. 
Dr Navaneetha Mokkil is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Womens Studies, JNU.
