Event Description : Sangeet Natak Akademi's Museum of Musical Instruments cordially invites you to an Interactive Session on Musical Instrument-making : 'Surbahar' by Shri Mangla Prasad Sharma of Kolkata, Renowned Musical Instrument-maker and Shri Pushpraj Ramlal Koshti, Eminent Surbahar artist and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee. 

Mangla Prasad Sharma  - Musical instruments-maker Born in 1951 in Varanasi, Shri Manga Prasad Sharma obtained his degree in Bachelor of Music from Prayag. Sangeet Samity, Allahabad, and also a degree in Commerce from Benaras Hindu University. Over the last few decades he has earned fame in making quality Indian musical instruments. He has been supplying his musical instruments to various reputed organizations, like All India Radio, Benaras Hindu University and Viswa Bharati University. In his profession as a manufacturer, he has been closely associated with several eminent artists, including Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, Fariduddin Dagar, Asad Ali Khan, Gundecha Brothers, Buddhadev Das Gupta, Debu Choudhary, Pushpraj Koshti, and Imrat Khan.

Pushpraj Ramlal Koshti - SurbaharArtist Born on 20 June 1950 in Bombay, Shri Pushpraj Kohti received his initial training in the Surbahar from his father Ramlal Koshti. Thereafter, he honed his art under Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, the eminent instrumentalist of the Dagar tradition. Together with the Surbahar, Shri Koshti acquired proficiency in playing the Sitar. Later, he studied Dhrupad-singing under Zia Fariduddin Dagar, Over the years, Shri Pushpraj Koshti has won recognition as a distinguished Surbahar-player. He has contributed significantly to the sustenance and development of the art by conducting seminars and workshops on the Surbahar, and giving lecture-demonstrations at many institutions. He has been visiting faculty at the Rotterdam Conservatory, Netherland. A regular performer on All India Radio and Doordarshan, he has presented Surbahar recitals both in India and abroad. He has many recordings to the credit. For his work in the field of music. Shri Koshti has been honoured by the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music in 2011.
