Event Description : EXHIBITION "Undeciphered Fates" Book installations, Voice and Video by Saba Hasan.
About her exhibition ‘UNDECIFERED FATES’ showcasing book installations, voice and video works, the artist says “These works are my experiences, emotions, ideas expressed as intimate totems and scattered memories ... the art in them is what we believe in, what we live by, what's precious in life, what we deeply fear or desire or recall or doubt or protect ...”
Saba’s book and voice works began as an exploration around the idea of truth with books as a material much like clay or paint. Growing up in an academic and literary family has clearly influenced her choice of books as a medium. Saba thinks words reveal the pitfalls surrounding human knowledge and this she uses to redefine meanings founded on new beliefs.
Saba Hasan is a noted abstract artist with an eclectic contemporary repertoire consisting of paintings, photographs, book installations, voice works and videos. Layered with undertones her work reveals the forces of time, nature and personal histories in a potent, nuanced voice.
Saba was awarded the the Raza National Award for painting 2005, art fellowships from the French Cultural Ministry 2006, the Oscar Kokoschka Academy 2010 ; her work was at the Venice Biennale 2013 as part of the Imago Mundi Collection. Saba has received Honorable Mention at the Moscow Foto Awards, 2013 and her video La Verite/Haqeeqat was nominated for the Celeste Contemporary Art Prize 2014. Saba's sound work was part of John Adam's opening piece at the new Met Breur, New York 2016.; her latest series of photographs was presented by the Japan Foundation, 2016.
