Event Description : 31st Annual Dastkari Haat Craft Bazaar .

Highlights: 2017 India – Iran Crafts Exhibition, Workshop and Interaction titled ‘Namayeshgahsanaye-E -Dasti Iranva Hind’ from 3rd to 14th January,  2017.

9 highly talented Iranian craftspeople/artists/calligraphers will be coming to India to engage with Indian counterparts to revive the old civilizational and creative links between the two countries.
Around 200 artisans from various parts of India will showcase the rich and diverse culture of our country through handloom, pottery, jute among many other arts, crafts and textiles.

Dastkari Haat Samiti is happy to announce the 31st edition of Annual Dastkari Haat Craft Bazaar- an annual event that celebrates the diverse arts and crafts around the world. As every year, this year too, the 15 day bazaar focuses on the rich crafts tradition of another country, along with 200 popular art, crafts and textile from India. This time it is Iran, which is considered the birthplace of designed earthenware utensils and is home to the unique and creative art of metalwork, which is used to make a variety of ornaments, decorative objects, not to mention the producer of exotic carpets.

Nine highly talented craftspeople/artists/calligraphers from Iran are coming to India to engage with Indian counterparts to revive the old civilizational and creative links between the two countries. The wonderful products that arise from this unique India-Iran collaboration will be displayed on 14th January at Dilli Haat, INA.

Dr Zahra Ahmadypoor, head of the Iranian organisation for Handicrafts and Tourism has been invited to India for the opening event. Smt Smriti Irani and Dr Ahmadypoor have been requested to jointly inaugurate this artistic interaction between two countries on 3rd January.

The timing of such an interaction is more significant as it follows the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Teheran in May 2016. Strategic, Development and Cultural agreements were signed by him at that time.

The cultural agreement promotes regular exchanges in arts, literature, poetry, language and other forms of cultural activity between Iran and India. And the Dastkari Haat Craft Bazaar is laying the stepping stone in that direction, all thanks to Dastkari Haat Samiti President, Smt Jaya Jaitly who had accompanied the cultural delegation with ICCR and had held talks about the possibility of an event at Dilli Haat to encourage the sharing of ideas, techniques, and designs as in old times. Thanks to sponsorship from the Office of the Development Commissioner Handicrafts in the Ministry of Textiles , the  ICCR, and the active co-operation of Iran Culture House, New Delhi as well as the  Department of Handicrafts and Tourism of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the proposal submitted to the Govt of India by Dastkari Haat Samiti has become a reality.

Along with the India-Iran collaboration and products related to the same, visitors can also enjoy cultural performances by Baul Singers from Bengal, along with folk singers and dancers from Rajasthan and Chaau performance from Bengal on weekends.

Jaya Jaitly - President -DHS shares, "The Samiti has constantly worked towards expanding opportunities for craftspeople as conservationists of Indian heritage. The Samiti’s artisan-members have travelled all over and collaborated with local artisans in other developing nations to create utility-based and market-friendly products. We hope to create beautiful products and relationships through the interaction with Iranian craftsmen as well.”
With an eclectic mix of National-Awardees and artisans-in-training, the Samiti’s artisan-members are stars in their own right.  The opportunity provided by the Samiti has enabled many members to travel across the globe and collaborate with artisans in other developing nations, creating products that are utility-based and market-friendly.

Arts and Crafts from various parts of India, presentation of newly found crafts persons and skill demonstrations will be proudly presented at the fortnightly bazaar that starts on 1st January 2017 at Dilli Haat, INA.
