Event Description :
Four experts belonging to different genres of art came under one roof at Oxford bookstore to have a talk session on diverse art forms they belong to the changes & innovations they have seen so far from the era bygone and the contemporary times.  Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi (Artist & Art Curator), Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar (Dhrupad singer), Pratibha Prahlad (Bharatnatyam Director), Manohar Khushalani (Theater Actor & Director) will be the eminent panelist for the talk. This interactive session will highlight the changes these two epics have gone through & how people have started to showcase them in various manners, using different techniques. 


The esteemed panelist of this talk will be Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi (Artist & Art Curator), Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar (Dhrupad singer), Pratibha Prahlad (Bharatnatyam Dancer), Manohar Khushalani (Theater Actor & Director) 

"Indian Mythology & Art" - an event to be held on 17th of October at Oxford Bookstore on the topic "The Impact of Ramayana & Mahabharata in performing arts". We will be discussing as how Ramayana & Mahabharata creates its impact through dance, music, theater with improvised vocals, music of various genres, creative narration. With all this people who have been in the limelight for their specialization in performing Ramayana & Mahabharata over the years. We will also be having a critical analysis on how fast this particular art form is dying, with the world being so tech savy.  

Panelists :

Manohar Khushalani

He  is a well-known Theatre Actor/Director and Critic, has been involved in theatre since 1977. He has worked as an actor in over 45 proscenium plays with almost every leading director/Actor in the Country.

 As a member of Workshop Theatre, Theatre Union and Prayog, Khushalani has participated in street plays taking up major social issues such as dowry, bride burning, Sati, banned medicinal drugs and communalism. Mr. khushalani has also acted in a few films such as Sudhir Mishra's Hazaron Khwaishen Aisi and Pradeep Krishan's Annie Gives Those Ones.

He did his graduation from BITS, Pilani and was the President of BITS Pilani Alumni Association, Pune.

Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi

Dr. Alka Raghuvanshi is India’s first trained art curator, having trained at the Goldsmiths College, London and the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford.

She has created and designed nearly 20 major exhibitions both in India and abroad. A keen painter herself, her solo exhibitions drew valued response and her works formed part of some very important shows both at the National and International level, including the Adana Biennale (Turkey) and the ongoing worldwide exhibition Giuseppe Garibaldi emanating from Turkey.

She has been on the Editorial Teams of the Indian Express, The Times of India, Pioneer and The BBC, where she consistently wrote to cover the entire spectrum of the Arts. As Editor of Swagat she re-designed and re-launched the magazine. She launched Pioneerarts.com, the first of its kind website on the performing and visual arts.

Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar

Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar is an Indian classical singer of the dhrupad genre and the son of dhrupad singer Ustad Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010. Wasifuddin Dagar's public career began on February 25, 1989, only a few days after his father's death, when he gave his first performance. He sang with Ustad Zahiruddin Dagar. Wasifuddin's first major recording were in Switzerland, India and Japan, in 1992. He has since recorded in Switzerland, India, and America with major recording labels. A French television company made a film based on their life and music.

Prathibha Prahlad 

Smt. Prathibha Prahlad is an acclaimed Bharata Natyam dancer whose multi- faceted personality reflects in the exemplary work she continues to do in the arts field. She is a performer, educator, choreographer, arts administrator, author and a cultural visionary.

Her multi-style productions ‘Rhythm & Harmony’, ’Panchajanya –sights & sound of India’ ‘VandeMataram’ won her huge accolades and have bee emulated by many of her contemporaries and seniors in the field.


Smt.Prathibha Prahlad is the recipient of numerous awards and titles. The Govt. of India has honored her with thethe PADMASHRI (2016) in recognition of her yeoman service to the arts. She is the youngest recipient of the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for dance (2001). She has also received the Karnataka State Government Award (2001), Sangeet Nritya Academy Award of Karnataka (1997.
