Event Description : On the 96th Foundation Day of Jamia Millia Islamia, AJK MCRC, has taken up the initiative of putting up a photo exhibition and a multimedia project. This creative experiment entails a multimedia project which is a revolutionary experiment.
27th to 29th October : 11:00 am - 5:00 pm : #ChitthiAayiHai and #Sandesh2soldiers
#ChitthiAayiHai allows the public to become a participant, to collaborate and co-create and be an artiste. Conversations have existed for long where we debate whether art should be for art’s sake or for people sake. Here the visitors are encouraged to write messages on postcards and their personal portraits are juxtaposed with those messages to create a work of art. Here the average selfie assumes meaning and goes beyond the aspersions of vanity and self indulgence.
Curator’s Note (by Prof. F.B. Khan):
This project draws inspiration from the Hon. Prime Minister’s Call to express our feelings for our brave soldiers. The multimedia project #ChitthiAayiHai extends into our students and the public participating in the art of creating art and at the same time expressing our heartfelt gratitude to our young brave soldiers who face great odds and selflessly continue to serve this great nation. On the occasion of Diwali we wanted to join our country in expressing our thanks to our army and to convey to them that despite them being away from their homes each one of us has a home which they can call their own and we salute their commitment and bravery and wish them a very happy and prosperous Diwali.
27th to 29th October : 11:00 am - 5:00 pm : Photography Exhibition: ‘Us and Them; Owning the other’
The second multimedia project is a photography exhibition on the theme ‘Us and Them; Owning the other’ which urges the viewers to come and explore the world through the eyes of our budding photographers.
Curator’s Note (by Prof. F.B. Khan):
Photographs are your window to the world, a testament of the times we live in. Through the exhibition which I have curated on the theme, Us and Them; Owning the other I have attempted to engage students who were asked to explore stereotypes, myths and deep rooted, prejudices and perceptions about people, places, things and situations that they were uncomfortable or unsure about. They were asked to do role plays and question and investigate inherent biases about surroundings which were new to them. This has then been expressed through their images. It is also the key to the success that the photography students have essayed. We actively ask them to unlearn and de-condition themselves. We ask them to see the life through the eyes of a child while actively engaging with the social and the political realities of our world. The photographs which you therefore see our sensitive and evocative and speak to us and make us think, that is the true purpose of photography.
29th October : 2pm - 5pm : Photography Workshop by Altaf Qadri
On the last day of the celebration, a photography workshop will be conducted by Altaf Qadri, an award-winning photojournalist who was adjudged the winner in Portrait/Personality category, 2014 Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar Conte and various other awards. He is currently working with the Associated Press, New York Times and the National Geographic Society.
