Event Description : This is an invitation for a theatre festival “Zikr-e-yaar Chale…” which celebrates the life and works of Shahid Anwar. This is the inaugural edition of the festival, which is being initiated on his birth anniversary. The year 2016 also marks the 20th year of Bahroop Arts Group.

“Zikr-e-yaar Chale…” carries forward the ideas and concerns shared by Shahid Anwar. This festival intends to provide a platform for a progressive dialogue within theatre groups from different parts of the country and also among people at large. The inaugural edition of the festival this year aims at bringing performances and performers from various parts of India to give a new interpretation to his plays and re-enacting them anew, based on their personal understanding grounded in their own socio-economic, cultural and political identities.

For this year, “Zikr-e-yaar Chale…” brings on stage three plays written by Shahid Anwar being performed by three different Groups.

Schedule :

18th September : Hamare Samay Mein by  Bahroop Arts Group
Hamare Samay Mein underlines the decadence of a unipolar world where one loses sight of the possibilities for an alternative existence. It profiles the contour of dreams and hopes Man has to live with when the tradition of resistance is getting thinner and thinner.

19th September : Soopna ka Sapna by IPTA (Patna)
Soopna ka Sapna underlines the class character of the two forces at work in most part of the rural India. It unfolds how egalitarianism without partisanship is a myth when the struggle of interests is blunted into a conflict between two individuals.

20th September :  B3 by IPTA (Raigarh)
B-Three unfolds the story of a history teacher and his seemingly innocent experiment to explain to his students how Hitler could manage to ‘legitimise’ the systematic murdering of millions of innocent Jews. Lost in the momentum of the experiment, students and teacher both find themselves in situations beyond the reach of history....
