In her new body of work Gouri Vemula uses the Signs of the Zodiac as her point of departure.Unleashing her creative inner eye,she offers us a glimpse of a dream world, where knowledge of the Self lies mysteriously hidden. The living creatures that represent each Sun Sign assume mythical proportions through her evocative pen and ink delineations, and are made to reside in a subconscious terrain wherethe real and unreal are undefined.
With an amazing skill of draughtsman ship and an unerring sense of composition, Gouri draws from indigenous classical and popular traditions of Indian iconography, creatingimagined landscapes where gods, humans and nature coexist in a tempestuous cosmic play or lila.
Aditi Aggarwal
Aditi Aggarwal’s artworks are not premeditated;instead she leaves herself open to what spontaneously occurs during the very process of applying paint to the surface of acrylic sheets. Preferring acrylic to canvas, Aditi enjoys its non- absorbent quality that allows the paint to roll across the surface in rivulets, Aditi tilting it to guide its progression in various directions. The paint, untouched by a brush, tends to dry in thick impasto- like blobs, giving the entire surface a glossy, tactile feel.
Aditi tends to not mix her colours so that they retain their metallic and neon-like vibrancy. Her works resemble topographical views of the urban landscape.
In her latest body of work she eschews color and instead, working through black and white she has created a 100 foot scroll in ten segments, where she has scratched the surface through the black paint , to reveal an unending cityscape.
