Event Description : EXHIBITION :
Anubhav Nath Curatorial Director of Ojas Art presents “The 2nd edition of Divine Dieties”An interpretation of the divine by Raja Ravi Varma and 4 contemporary artists- Harshavardhan Kadam, Abhishek Singh, Ujan Dutta and Keshav

Curatorial Director Anubhav Nath of Ojas Art brings The Divine Deities  in its second edition, an opportunity for art lovers  to vision the art of Gods and Goddesses by contemporary artists, namely Abhishek Singh, Harshvardhan Kadam, Keshav and Ujan Dutta. Also, a rare collection of unique zardosi work Raja Ravi Varma oleographs will form the backdrop for this unique exhibition.

The exhibition consists of more than 100 artworks : paintings, oleographs, digital prints, sketches, drawings and watercolors, ranging in size from 15 cms by 15 cms to 15 feet by 6 feet and starting at a very affordable  INR 3,500.

In this exhbition, Anubhav Nath, has handpicked artworks by four contemporary artists who have been working in the genre of the Divine. The artists are: Abhishek Singh (New York – Gwalior) , Harshavardhan Kadam (Pune) , Keshav (Chennai)  and Ujan Dutta (Delhi). Abhishek Singh presents his interpretations of Shiva and his works that were a part of the public art project Shiva in Varanasi (2014) which is being shown in Delhi for the first time in Delhi.

Harshvardhan Kadam is well known for his blazing imagery of the divine through his murals, especially the one on Lodi Road. He will be presenting his digital works on Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh and a Ganesha.

Keshav is a cartoonist by profession, and a self-described painter by choice. He celebrates Krishna by painting Him in His various facets and highlighting different episodes from His earthly life. Keshav posts one Krishna artwork a day on social media under the name of Krishna for Today and has great following.

Ujan Dutta is a young graphic designer who has had a solo show and is fascinated by the superhuman. He is a senior graphic designer at Teamwork Arts.

Also, on display is a collection of zardosi Raja Ravi Varma oleographs that were last shown in 2014 in Houston, Texas by Asia Society, U.S.A.  The zari oleographs are the real collectables and each one is unique. Ojas Art has one of the largest collections of these zardosi based original oleographs.

“Imageries are organic and ever changing and there is a certain playfulness which comes with changing imageries. It’s only with experimentation and trial and error that something new emerges. Initially Raja Ravi Varma was criticised for his imageries of Lakshmi and Saraswati, which went on to become the most identifed images for the goddesses,“ said Anubhav Nath, Curatorial Director, Ojas Art. “There is also a selection of limited edition and open edition prints of artworks to make the acquisition process more democratic.”

About the Artists :

Abhishek Singh was born in Gwalior and  graduated from  National Institute of Design in Ahemdabad in 2005. His paintings, artworks have been exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2009-10);  Academy of Fine Arts and Literature in Delhi, India (2010) and at the visionary Fractal Gallery at Burning Man (2013) and on the Ghats of Varanasi via Shiva in Varanasi (2014), a public art project by Ojas Art.
Abhishek's graphic novel and comic book works include KRISHNA - A Journey Within, published by Image Comics (2012). He was the visual artist / co-creator for Deepak Chopra and Shekhar Kapur's Ramayana 3392 A.D, published by Virgin Comics. Cumulatively his comics have sold over half a million copies and have been translated in Italian, Spanish, French, and English.Abhishek currently lives between his studios in Brooklyn, New York and Mumbai. Whenever possible he retreats for a meditation trek in the Himalayas.

Harshavardhan Kadam graduated from NID, Ahemdabad. He conceives, perceives and executes his experiences through visuals. With the mythologies seeded in his vision, he found his forte in contemporaneous story telling. His collective, inkbrushnme, with its eclecticism, has produced conceptually and stylistically powerful visual art. He has also served as an Art Director for animation and live action films for various production houses across India.
With conceptual clarity and solidity, he has illustrated many characters in graphic novels, and children’s books. Harshvardhan paints walls and animates them vibrantly. Based in Pune he is leading the street art movement there.

Keshav has a passion for drawing from childhood and is a self taught artist. In1982, he began sketching people from life and explored cartooning and  became a full fledged cartoonist with the National Daily, ‘The Hindu’ since 1987, where he continues as an editorial consultant.
His keen interest in  the spiritual aspect of Krishna lead to “Krishna for Today.”  It became his daily routine to paint a Krishna in his various moods and various leelas, and share it in the social media. Keshav has developed a unique way to depict his Krishnas-- varying the  style of drawing/painting but keeping the subject constant. The idea is to have relook at Krishna. He uses various designs, costumes, different environs and even nationalities (Egyptian Krishna, Chinese Krishna, Aztec Krishna, Amazon Krishna, Pokémon Krishna etc.,) so that he does not repeat himself.  Although the subject and the stories are the same, he tries to bring in new ideas through which the story is communicated effectively. In the process, he also tries to decipher what has been hidden in such stories, which makes it a treasure-hunt of sorts.

Ujan Dutta is a self taught artist from New Delhi and is currently a graphic designer based in India. Ujan has been drawing the superhuman and the extraordinary since he first could hold a pencil. The ability of fantasy, in particular, to take the viewer into a world of infinite possibility-a world of the magical, unreal and unknown, has always fascinated him. While loosely based on the depictions of the divine in hindu mythology, the style in these works is completely and inimitably his own. After a highly successful debut show at the India habitat centre in 2012, Ujan has exhibited at the prestigious China Art Museum in Shanghai as part of the 'Forms Of Devotion' Exhibition in 2015. He is currently working towards his second solo show, 'Animalis'.
