Shishi-Odori is one of the folk performing art forms active today in the Tohoku region, Japan. Shishi-Odori is danced as a part of rituals in different occasions, such as requiem, memorial service for ancestral spirits, or in order to purify evil spirits, or sometimes in expression of gratitude for an abundant harvest. Many schools exist, each with its own dance styles and costumes. This time, the Gyozan School Maikawa Shishi Odori group will perform in their style of Drum Dance.
