SA'ADAT HASAN MANTO (11 May 1912 – 18 January 1955) displaced many idols — religion, love, patriotism — through stark writing that placed humanity above everything else. In his world candidness is the cardinal virtue and hypocrisy the cardinal sin. His heart-warming wit, lifts his bleak tales from their atmosphere of gloom, making them invaluable human documents of our times.

'Padhiye Kalma'
A Muslim is caught red handed while stabbing a Hindu to death. His confession reveals an intriguing dimension to the ostensible communal theory - A bewitching & mysterious woman!
Enacted by Manjeet Mahipal

RAJINDER SINGH BEDI (1 September 1915 – 11 November 1984) wrote of lives that were commonplace but hidden in their very ordinariness, the human spirit shone through in all its lustre and brilliance. Some his memorable contributions to Hindi cinema can be seen in classics like 'Ek Chaadar Maili Si', 'Dastak', Madhumati', 'Abhimaan', 'Anupama', 'Satyakam', 'Devdas' & 'Mirza Ghalib'.

'Chechak ke Daag'
A beautiful bride-to-be sees the groom for the first time on her wedding day. Her dreams turn into a nightmare; the prince's face is not so charming. Is beauty is in the eye's of the beholder?
Enacted by Shashwita Sharma

KAMLESHWAR (6 January 1932 – 27 January 2007)  depicted the trials and tribulations of a fast changing society, groping for new values in the face of the collapse of the old value system. He was also a prolific screenwriter who deftly blended the thin line between art and commerce in films like 'Sara Aakash', 'Aandhi', 'Mausam', 'Rajanigandha', ‘Rang Birangi', 'Choti Si Baat' and 'Mr. Natwarlal'.

'Apne Desh Ke Log'
After smart phones and cities, it's time to ensure our workforce is made smart too. 'Sabka Saath, Apna Vikas' is the motto of this Kafkaesque office where discipline & development go hand in glove.
Enacted by KC Shankar

MOHAN RAKESH (8 January 1925 – 3 December 1972) was a modernist innovator in Hindi who deeply influenced India's multilingual literary culture after Independence. His full-length plays—Ashadh ka ek din (1958), Lahron ke rajhans (1963) and Adhe Adhure (1969)—became seminal works of urban theatre, while his fiction sustained the 'new story' & 'new novel' movements nationally.

'Parmatma Ka Kutta'
When battling a system where bureaucracy and red tapism have sacrificed duty and justice on the altar of greed and corruption, to what extreme must a Common Man go to uphold his dignity and self-respect?
Enacted by Vicky Ahuja

Jashn-E-Qalam Storytellling
Across time and culture, Oral Storytelling in the form of folklore, mythology & even grandma's tales have been agents of personal & societal transformation. With the advent of industrialisation and consumerism, visual storytelling in the form Film, TV, etc. has overshadowed these oral narratives. Imagination & Visualisation are the unfortunate casualties!

Jashn-E-Qalam celebrates the Genius of eminent Litterateurs with Dramatic Readings & Storytelling Performances of their Notable Works. The common objective is use the power of the spoken word to collectively experience their timeless brilliance. In the process becoming a reason to meet, share and most importantly...listen!

Since inception, they have performed over 200 Stories at black-box theatres, academic institutions, offices, homes & even public parks! Audiences have relished the act of co-creating a sensuous experience rather than passively consuming a prepared one.
