Event Description : EXHIBITION "Divinity of Ghats" a group show of Paintings.

"Divinity of Ghats" The participating artists have showcased ghats by the river ganges and the divine aura these ghats accumulate in themselves. The artists have illustrated this divine & spiritual concept of ghats in displayed artworks in mediums like watercolors, acrylic & mix medium. Participating artists include Durga Charan Das, Madhusudan,Sudip Routh, and more.

A Ghat painting can be foremost interpreted as a panoramic representation on canvas of some highly revered Ghats in India located in places like Varanasi Ghats, River Ganga or Ganges, the boats in the river, saints dip in the river or praying as well as the multitude of small temples almost falling off the cliff face and the narrow streets teeming with the life and activity. Holy and devotional thoughts greatly terminate the inspirational source of Ghat paintings. Ghats’s paintings represent the natural beauty of holiest spot that glorified by myths and apologue that fetches art lovers remarkable close to the nature. These paintings also complement the concept of divinity. Over the years, Ghat artwork has become a symbolic style in the world of painting in India.


Some of the India’s historically significant and visually gripping water banks serve as a great way of inspiration for painters who want to make fame in this discipline. Artists generally pose paying a visit to the divine banks in order to get an immediate experience of the place before picking up their brush to forms paintings on Ghats which they want to imitate with colors. Painters like Sudip Routh, Madhusudan, Durga Charan Das mostly prefer oil on canvas or water colours to serve as a tool in helping them to create realistic ghatscapes.
