Event Description : Art Collide and The Hungry Monkey present an evening of soul-stirring independent music with a unique collaboration between French singer-songwriter Mathias Durand and Iranian master percussionist Fakhroddin Ghaffari.

Mathias Durand is a singer-songwriter from France. He learned to play the classical piano from his grandmother, and then also learnt how to play the drums and the guitar.
From 2006 to 2010, he studied in the class of acousmatic composition with Régis Renouard-Larivière in Conservatoire Erik Satie, Paris.
He released his debut album Broken Letters in 2008 and played with the quartet, Math and the Letters.
In the summer 2009, he traveled to Calcutta and started his training in Hindustani Classical music with Pandit Santanu Bandyopadhyay. The next summer, they toured across France, and recorded an album as a duet (Mood). 
He also learnt the sitar from Sri Shubo Chakraborty.
Mathias has performed with Alacazas Jasey since 2001 and in the experimental septet IT since 2006 and is a guitarist and pianist with the John Mitchell Fleet (Head on, 2013), Jospeh Leon (The Bare Awakening, 2013), and collaborates with plasticians, poets and performers.
With Niktus, he founded the collective Satourne and organised an itinerant festival in the summers 2013 and 2014 in France.
He joined Tritha Electric in 2012 and since then they have toured across Europe, India and Africa.
He composes for movies and performances and is now preparing a solo album to come in fall 2016, as well as one album with Tritha Electric and one with Santanu Bandyopadhyay.

Fakhroddin Ghaffari
Iranian-born percussionist Fakhroddin Ghaffari has mastery over multiple Persian and Middle Eastern percussion instruments including his principal instrument, Tombak, as well as Darbuka and Daf. Earlier trained under his uncle, Tombak player Saeed Abbasi, he represents today the school of Tombak maestro Bahman Rajabi. Fakhroddin has lived in India for the past 13 years performing and collaborating with top musicians from throughout India and has shared the stage with artists such as Abida Parveen and Hansraj Hans. He has received his Bachelor, Master and M.Phil degree in Hindustani Classical Music from Delhi university and is currently working on his PHD. He founded the Viuna Music Ensemble with whom he has toured across the country in the festivals Sufi Darbar, Ruhaniyat, Jahan-e-Khusrau, Jamal-e-Begum-Akhtar and many more. Fakhroddin has spoken in seminars, both national and international, on Indian and Iranian music and percussion, the Raaga-Taal system of Indian Classical music and Music therapy. He has taught at the Lancers International School, a branch of Cambridge University, and has written many articles and translated several books on Indian music from English to Farsi.
