Event Description : EXHIBITION "Layers" a solo show of paintings by Malay Saha.
Artist Comment :
Since I have been deeply rooted in the overwhelming urbanity of a metro city for last two decades, I tried to comprehend the physical and social environment of the city life with a sensitive mind. I always had a keen interest in the portrayal of apparently lifeless objects like beds, sofas, chairs, doors windows, curtains etc. which act like mere props in the ongoing human drama but are equally impressive on individual appearance. Objects are the things that modern living is surrounded with. Aggressive consumerism determines the necessity and our dependence on them. Commodities are filling up the void of our lives, created by unstable and complicated personal or social relationships. Bearing the mark of belonging and bondage these objects can animate a space like any human form do and are equally capable of expressing certain emotion, mood and authority. I tried to impassionate the day to day objects and visualize them in almost iconic stature. This way I also tend to explore the potential relationship between the object and space as well as the relationship between human being and the objects. I prefer using bright, dazzling colours and intricate textures to build up the body of my work. The textures juxtapose the flat colours and enhance the visibility notion of simple objects in the aura of prominence and importance.
