On the occasion of World Dance Day, Shovana Narayan’s ASAVARI (Centre for Kathak) in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi presents“Vividh Mat: Perceptions”, a Seminar cum Dance presentation. Also, the high powered panelists will share their perspective on the theme of the evening and will make it an enriching experience for the audience on both the days.
“Vividh-Mat” seeks to explore range of perceptions on two issues namely (i) “Dharma -Adharma” that seem to imply ethics which in itself is more concerned with the moral conduct necessary for the survival and maintenance of a social group or social order or the individual’s existence while(ii) “Can the Twain Meet”, inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s well-known ballad, seeks to open various vistas where differences and accidents of thoughts, philosophies and cultures may or may not become meaningless.
On the occasion of World Dance Day, we in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi and with support from Gyanshree are presenting “Vividh Mat: Perceptions” (a Seminar cum Dance presentation) on 26th & 27th April, 2015 at Meghdoot Theatre III, Rabindra Bhawan, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi-1 at 6pm.
The high powered panellists include:
(i) Dr. Sonal Mansingh (Dancer, Padma Vibhashan), Dr. Bibek Debroy (Economist, Member Niti Aayog) and Saeed Naqvi (Sr. Journalist) on 26th April on the subject of “Dharma-Adharma”;
(ii) Dr Pushpesh Pant (Academic, Historian, Padmashri), Keki Daruwala (poet, short story writer, former Member Minorities Commission, Padmashri), Seema Mustafa (journalist, Editor-in-Chief of The Citizen) and Alka Raghuvanshi (artist, art curator) on 27th April on the subject of “Can the Twain Meet”.
The moderators are Shanta Serbjeet Singh (arts writer-columnist and former Vice Chairman of Sangeet Natak Academy, SNA awardee) on the 26th of April, 2016 and Dr Yatindra Mishra (award winning Hindi poet-writer-editor, music and cinema aficionado) on 27th of April, 2016.
Each of the panellists will share his/her individual perspective on the theme of the evening thus making it an enriching experience.
Giving the fourth dimension are the dance performances.
Schedule :
On the 26th of April, seeking to expand on the issue of “Dharma-Adharma”, Shruti Gupta Chandra and myself perform the “Karna-Kunti Samvad” (based on Dinkar’s Rashmirathi) and which was first premiered in 1986.
On the 27th of April, another dimension to the discussion on “Can the Twain Meet” will be given through the evocative piece “Yudhishthir and Draupadi” based on a poem of Pavan K Varma by Sunit Tandon (eminent Theatre Actor-Director) and myself that had been premiered in 1997.
This will be preceded by a 6 minutes short piece based on the music of Debussy (Et la Lune) that had been premiered in 1993 and which too essays another dimension on the subject of discussion.
Short synopsis of “Vividh Mat: Perceptions”, “Dharma-Adharma” and “Can the Twain Meet” are given below.
