Jaisa Tum Kaho, Hindi play
Writer : Jai Vardhan,
Directed by Chitra Singh
Group : Rangbhoomi, New Delhi
The play is focused on the journey of relationship between mother and children. It becomes weaker when the age goes on because daughters become busy with their own family after marriage and son becomes busy with his wife & children. It is only the husband wife relationship which survives till the last breath.
In the modern concept of family life, the bonds of relations with each other are getting weaker and weaker. The play talks about the concept of family life as it has evolved in today’s world and how family bonds have deteriorated beyond recognition. Family members are drifting away from each other for materialistic and financial gains.
The play deals with an old couple, who are very vulnerable and loveable. The husband tries to fulfill all the desires of his wife & children by saying “JAISA TUM KAHO” Inspite of having being deprived of love from their children; they still have the courage to fight the melancholy and pathos of their lives. Through this play,we realize that the race for prosperity and material gains has reduced family values. The play is a heart rending portrayal of the joys, sorrows and trials of this adorable couple. They support and love each other. This play is entertaining and simultaneously, it tells us about old age and their Loneliness.

Khamosh Adalat Jaari Hai , a play in Hindi
Writer : Vijay Tendulkar,
Directed by Rajesh Babbar
Group : Pratibimb Kala Darpan, New Delhi
Khamosh! Adalat Jaari Hai was originally written in Marathi by playwright Vijay Tendulkar in 1963. The story begins in a village with a group of people, who are planning to stage a play. When a cast-member does not turn up, they rope in a local man Samant to play the character. To familiarize him with the act, an improvised, free-flowing 'rehearsal' is arranged and a mock trial is staged to make him understand the court procedures. A (mock) charge of infanticide is leveled against Miss Benare, another cast-member & a school teacher.
The story takes a twist when the pretend-play suddenly turns into a grim charge which gradually takes shape of Benare's own life story. The innocence of Benare was physically exploited first by her uncle and then by a married colleague of hers, whom she dared to truly love. The play turns into an accusatory game when it emerges from the trial that Miss Benare is carrying an out-of-wedlock child from her failed illicit relationship with Professor Damle, the missing cast-member.
The story reveals the agonized world of a young school teacher who is humiliated and insulted. Deceived by two lovers with whom she has brief but passionate affairs; she is desperate to lead a respectable life. The play indicts a male-dominated society, reflecting a feminist viewpoint. At another level it deals with the mask and the real face and the relationship of art to life. Is India really in sync with the times where women power is concerned? Gender discrimination and harassment has taken new forms in corporate workplaces. The existing male order, highly insecure and immature, conspires to limit the female rise in newer ways of victimization and corruption. The performance in totality would present a perfect package of humor, underlining, at the same time the core message.

Gareeb Nawaz, a play in Hindi
Writer : Santosh Chaubey,
Directed by Davender Raj Ankur
Group : Sambhav, New Delhi
After returning from U.S.A, Vishav Mohan makes a B.P.O Company and opens his office in the metro city of India and sooner, he becomes a successful businessman. After few days, one man namely, Riyaaz opens his roadside Gareeb Nawaz Chicken shop nearby Vishav Mohan’s office. Vishav Mohan raised objections to it as he feels that chicken shop should not be operated in open as it would pollute the atmosphere and it would also be difficult to dispose of the dirt.
He connects this as the hurdle in the progress & prosperity of the country. Here in India, people open shop as and where they feel; they throw the garbage where they wish. He raises his objections but one another man also opens Narayan Bhojnalya nearby his office at the same time and politics enter into it. The so called civilized society, on the contrary, hit at Vishav Mohan and put an allegation of spreading violence. What happens next?

Jis Lahore Nahin Dekhya O Jamya Nahin, a play in Hindi
Writer: Asghar Wajahat,
Directed by Ravi Taneja
Group : Collegiate Drama Society, New Delhi
Jis Lahore Nahi Dekhya was written in the 1980s and is a poignant story of the dark time called partition. A partition that stood testimony to hatred, intolerance and fanaticism where thousands were attacked and hundreds killed. A generation rendered homeless with a total loss of national identity!
The story, set in 1947, is about an old Hindu woman in Lahore who, robbed of her son and family as a result of the riots at partition refuses to be robbed of her home by a Muslim refugee family from Lucknow.
Thousands of people were displaced, robbed and everything that they had during this partition. During this time One Muslim family reaches Lahore and after staying for many months at a refugee camp , finally a Haweli is allotted to them. After reaching the Haweli they get to know that a Hindu Woman is staying there and she claims that the Haweli belongs to her and she would not leave Pakistan and go to Hindustan. The Muslim family has a big challenge to face , meanwhile the Hindu Woman faces a lot of flak , outrage from the so called “saviours of the society” and other anti social elements. They ridicule and oppose the very existence of this Hindu lady in Lahore after the partition.
Even as the anti social people want to exploit the situation, they remain blind to the strength of human kindness and humanity.
