Event Description : Three Arts Club presents “Baki Itihaas" Hindi Play as part of 'Winter Theatrics' theatre festival.
The play is directed by M.K. Raina, a renowned theatre luminary, who has been working in the field of theatre for the last three and a half decades. Baki Itihaas was invited to National School of Drama's Bharat Rang Mahotsav-2016 and received an overwhelming response. The play was originally scheduled to only perform one show but backed by popular demand, Three Arts Club performed two shows to a packed Kamini Auditorium on February 20, 2016.
Synopsis:
How does our life relate to the history of the human race? When Sharad and his wife Vasanti receive the news of a suicide of an acquaintance their speculation on its causes sets the stage for a dramatic investigation into the contradictions in their own lives. Badal Sircar’s Baki Itihaas through this act of suicide, explores the individual’s role in history and asks if we can escape the burden of our past that serves as a constant source of reminder of our failings. Is humanity through these acts of barbaric violence for centuries committing its own end?
Writer: Badal Sircar
Director: M.K. Raina
Director's Note:
The human condition across the globe today, has got divided between have and have not’s, between oppression and exploitation, between plenty and starvation, between violence and nonviolence, between war and in search for peace, so much so that one is worried about the very future of this planet and its inhabitants. Hence living and confronting the realities of human histories, which inflicted pain and misery on human beings by human beings, needs to be forgrounded today. These histories are all around us in our living spaces, in our homes, in the streets, in institutions and in our environment, hidden, buried or forgotten. Better future for the human condition in contemporary times can only be envisaged and made probable, if one works with the awareness and consciousness of this hidden history -- BAKI ITIHAAS
