Event Description : EXHIBITION "Enlightenment of Journey" a solo art show by Ranjit Sarkar.
Mythology is a motif in Indian art and it has been widely used by famous Indian artist. In fact we can find a keen interest in their artworks from all around the globe.
Ranjit Sarkar’s artworks also travel around the mystery of mythology. This Bengali artist is inspired from legendary archetypal stories and has put these characters in his canvas. His canvas becomes his language while he paints these tales. Ranjit’s artworks have the sensory philosophical images of the world. In search of adventure, romance and enlightenment, this exhibition ‘Enlightenment of Journey’ explores the world of classic characters.
Ranjit has spent a large amount of time perfecting his painting since the subjects with all the form are always present in his classic dreams. The artworks cover contemporary mood and style. Ranjit says, “I find mythological stories very interesting as they depict sentiments of pure love and joy. I always try to reflect my contemporary style to the mythological characters. Also, I always add my temperament to create the images powerful and positive.”
Ranjit has always been fascinated by the characters like Krishan, Karna. “The acquisition of these images allowed me to build this exhibition with the expressions of each and every personality,” says Ranjit. The artist has chosen modern mode to highlight moods in his recent exhibition. The paintings on display explore the theme of folklore and legands.
The relation between celestial nymph Menaka and sage Vishwamitra is one example of Ranjit’s artwork, which touches a sad love story with ruling expressions. Similarly, the mystery of Karna’s Kavach - Kundal and devotional love between Krishna-Radha also explore the philosophy of life via the artist’s revealing paintings.
The strokes in the paintings have a feeling of motion. Blushing faces are really smooth and expressive. The paintings are painted in very bold strokes - spontaneous and glowing.
The exhibition deals with the sensitive subject of mythology, love and devotion and it seems therefore the artist has chosen cool and mild colours, representing the antiquity of all the characters.
The paintings are highly focused, exploring aspects of Indian art and culture. Another aspect of his work is the presentation, which is highly respectful of the devotional role of these images.
A self taught artist Ranjit has used mostly acrylic and then oil as his mediums. His every colour shade emanates a very characteristic light. The imageries in the paintings are illuminated and animated by colours. His paintings elaborate play with colour and light. There are various soothing shades of primary colours blue, yellow and red.
Profile of the artist : Ranjit is from Kolkata and has done many solo plus group shows all over India. He is planning for his new series dedicated to classic life with his self styled contemporary touch.
According to the artist " my work have dramatic representation with a constant exploration in mutation of mythology and religious charecter those expresses concerns of relationships between the human passion and surroundings, also attempt of modifications of natural appearances in order to arrive of intense impression of realism".
