Gallerie Nvya with the support of InKo Centre Chennai, hosts their second collaborative ceramics exhibition with Indian and Korean artists who have trained in traditional methods of ceramic production and techniques, emoting a contemporary vision in their modern conceptualisation of the ceramic object and its place in the artistic realm. Both India and Korea are renowned for their strong and diverse ceramic traditions in society as functional, ritualistic and architectural objects. Most of the artists whose works are exhibited here are educators, as well as strong practitioners, whose great influence on younger generations has led to a growing recognition of the value and highly regarded place of ceramic art in art practices of the 21st century.

The exhibition brings together an eclectic mix of senior South Korean names like Jae Joon Lee, Hoon Lee, Jin Kyoung Kim with senior India artists Ira Chaudhuri, P R Daroz, Trupti Patel and G Reghu, with a host of young talent  including Shirley Bhatnagar, Reyaz Badruddin, Pyon Kyu Ri, and Yoon Sun Lim among others.

Says Tripat K Kalra (Founder Director – Gallerie Nvya), “The moulding of clay is an act as primal as the emergence of Man. And what better way to begin the year, than to do with with a celebration of this medium and its earthiness. Contemporary ceramic art is a genre very dear to my heart, and I am therefore especially enthused at starting off the year with an exhibition that showcases its multiple manifestations. I feel privileged that some of the best artists and curators have put their faith in Gallerie Nvya by giving us the opportunity to host such a  splendid and meaningful show.”

Curated by Kristine Michael, New Delhi and Jin Kyoung Kim, Seoul
