Event Description : Art & Aesthetic Gallery presents "Creating Impressions" An exhibition of Prints.
Graphics, generally known as prints, is a highly under-rated and under- valued medium of visual expression in the discipline of art in this part of the world. To evoke curiosity in its processes and draw interest towards its sensibilities, Art and Aesthetic is committed to supporting the practice of printmaking by showcasing and promoting prints consistently.
The obsession with owning an ‘exclusive’ or ‘one and only’ somewhat dilutes the desire to acquire limited edition prints, undermining the laborious processes involved and inherent character of multiplicity in the tradition of printmaking.
In the contemporary scene, printmaking is a multi – faceted art with overlapping processes, the new processes coming into being while old technologies being re- visited. However, in the ever-evolving scenario , the medium retains it’s own unique character and aesthetics.
The process of image making in the reverse (mirror image) by Creating Impressions from one surface (zinc plate, litho, lino etc) to another surface (paper), while observing technical integrity and fulfilling creative aspirations and integrating the accidental effect in the image thereof, is not only challenging and intriguing for the printmaker but also fascinating for an inquisitive spectator. The intimacy involved in viewing the intricacy of let’s say an etching is quite endearing. Further, dissemination of creative visual imagery conforms to the original purpose of making limited editions prints thereby lending credence and significance to this invaluable tradition.
