Event Description :
CAMERAunLIMITED presents "36 Shades of Grey" a monochrome photo art exhibition where six talented photographers express through evocative images, their individual perceptions of life as they see it. With new age technology, using the camera to capture everyday life is much simpler. But to move a step backward and using the same technology to express images in monochrome is what 36 Shades of Grey attempts. Ancient ruins, lesser inhabited lands, daily life along with others that form the earth and beyond, come alive sans colour at 36 Shades of Grey: a unique perspective. This is the 9th exhibition in the series of an effort to blend the work of established and upcoming photographers, showcasing talent on a common platform.

The photo art exhibition has works of Monidipa Dey, a life-science post-graduate by education, a writer by profession and a photographer by passion. She heads the publication division for Heritage foundation and likes shooting portraits, interiors, landscape and historical building. Photographer Niraj Gera, displaying his works is a rare breed of talented photographers who tell a story through the frames. “I loves to travel, to places unknown and untouched and capture their inhabitants, their terrain to present a ‘slice of life’ in my work,” he says. Inspired by nature, light and its effects on emotions, Rashmi Rai crafts the unseen elements through her lens, in what seems to constitute the "real" in our everyday life. “I take inspiration from the 16th and 17th century Dutch and Italian Masters like Willem Claeszoon and Vermeer,” says Rashmi.

The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or feet away. It is always on his doorstep. Taking this vision forward is Ravi Shail, an advertising professional with an inclination for the arts. Ravi, also a painter has his works exhibited widely in Asia and his art adorn many residences in USA, Australia, India, Singapore and Malaysia. Shoba Jolly, an avid traveller, “loves practicing the ‘Art of Seeing’ through her roving camera lens.”  Her vivid and endearing "outside-in" images tell stories about people and places in far-away lands. Shoba focuses on travel, landscape, street and fine art photography. Photographer Yatinder Kumar, a graduate from NIFT, has elements of sophistication, simplicity and strong visualisation in his work. “My pictures transform the ordinary, with a touch of glamour and display stories that go beyond the realm of imagination,” he says.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Dhingra, Co-Founder CAMERAunLIMITED and curator of the show shares, "Our lives are not quite simple as black and white, there are infinite shades of grey. The complexities of tones bring diversity in our views and our thoughts."

Elaborating about the Title for the show, Ravi elaborates, "36 shades of grey is an attempt to highlight the ambiguity which we all are subject to. Each artist has interpreted the theme in a unique manner through the photographs. Technically these photographs may be termed as Black and White but these all represent various intensities of grey. The 6 participating photographers are displaying 6 artworks each  totaling to 36, the number which reminds us of 36 frames in a typical film roll extensively used not so long ago before the digital cameras generation."

About Ravi Dhingra : Ravi pursued photography as a hobby till he joined Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi in 1998 to learn the finer nuances of the craft. With his photographs he explores emotions attached with every subject- happiness, sadness, neglect and plight. He has been involved in Lifestyle photography which includes Interiors, Food, People and Products. His work has been widely published in various books, newspapers, magazines, brochures and on Web. He is based in Delhi.
