Event Description : Teej Rakhi Mela.
Delhi Tourism’s journey has always been about promoting culture and traditions not only prevalent in Delhi but India as a whole. The three Dilli Haats are a perfect example of the same as Delhi Tourism is back with the annual Teej Festival that has a lot in store for the visitors.
A festival of feasts and celebrations, Teej marks the welcome of the monsoon season during the month of ‘Shravan’ or ‘Saawan.’ The festival is primarily dedicated to Goddess Parvati and her union with Lord Shiva. Hence, it is also said to be an auspicious occasion for married women to be blessed with marital bliss. It is widely celebrated by women in North India especially in Rajasthan.
One of the highlighting features of the Teej Festival is the coming together of women enjoying the Teej Jhula, a swing hung from trees in villages and towns. The celebrations are accompanied by dancing, singing folk songs, dressing up in colourful outfits, ceremonial art of applying Mehendi and sharing festive delicacies.
The Teej Festival will be celebrated with abundant rapture and joy with an array of events lined up to mark this uplifting occasion at all the three locations. All the Dilli Haats will be showcasing Lifestyle Exhibition stalls as a part of Teej Bazaar offering Teej special rakhis, gift packs, ornamental bindis, bangles and jewellery. Special Mehendi stalls put up at all the three Dilli Haats will offer henna application with exclusive designs. Dilli Haat Janakpuri would be hosting competitions of making bindi, rangoli and mehendi art with an added attraction of the Teej Jhula and camel rides for kids.
This Teej Festival at Dilli Haats would be an utter shopping delight for the ladies with its handicraft and handloom stalls offering exclusive Lehariya from Jaipur. Food stalls from Rajasthan would offer a galore of festive delicacies like dal baati choorma, ghevar, raj kachaudi and more.
Embracing myriad colours, all the Dilli Haats would be adorned with a vibrant ambience of traditional swings for women to lift the spirits of one and all.
The evenings would be lightened up with cultural programmes specially hosted by Rajasthan Tourism showcasing the charm of the state’s folk dance and music.
