Event Description : "Ehi Passiko" solo exhibition of my paintings by Dhyan Passika.
The Artist's present collection of Buddha paintings took shape while he was listening to Osho’s discourses on Buddha entitled Es Dhammo Sanantano. The collection emerged from deep meditative spaces that the artist experienced while he listened to Osho’s voice speaking on the teachings of Buddha. The majestic Himalayan ranges of Dhauladhar in Dharamshala stood witness to Dhyan Passika’s creativity. The artist has aptly titled the exhibition as ‘Ehi Passiko’ which means ‘Come & See.’ It is his invitation to you to come and see the creations that came out of a meditative space. The serenity on Buddha’s face in the entire collection is a reflection of how deeply the artist has been touched by the highest teachings of the Buddha, the voice of his Master and the silence of the Himalayas.
About the artist : Dhyan Passika also known as Ravikanth is a full time artist who has found a unique niche for himself by combining painting with meditation. He was born in 1981 at Bangalore, Karnataka. He belongs to the generation of contemporary that emerged in the wake of the influence of senior & contemporary artists of the yesteryears. He has studied Indian traditional sculpture & completed his graduation in contemporary sculpture where he absorbed the acute attention associated with traditional Indian forms and photography.Subsequently he refined his own visual and conceptual vocabulary that emerged through his focus on the points of intersection between architecture, sculpture & spatial analysis.
Experimenting with the various dimensions of his creativity Dhyan Passika did glass interior work for some years. He then moved to Bhopal and worked in Bharat Bhawan for a couple of years using ceramic medium to make beautiful sculptures. He got Karnataka Lalithakala Academy Award, Venkatappa State Award , Mysore Dasara Exhibition Award, “21st Century Icon” Award. Also he participated in State and National level camps.Dhyan Passika exhibited his works across the country including Bangalore, Kochi, Delhi, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Bombay, Bhopal, Khajuraho, Bhubaneswar and Orissa. His life was touched when he started reading Osho and attended some meditation camps.
Meditation provided the right soil for the art in him to come to its full flowering. He came back to Bangalore and started commercial work as a visual merchandiser with companies like TITAN , Shoppers Stop, Big Bazaar, Central Mall, Total Mall & Future Group for 8 years. He also did interior work for hotels like NANDOZ , SHITAKI , THE TAO TERRACES , MAMMA MEXICANA-1 MG MALL & THE STUDIO BAR-ORION MALL. Then came the call of the mountains and Dhyan Passika left all commercial work and came back to his full time artist life and now lives in the upper ranges of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh where he created this series of Buddha paintings with meditation….
