Event Description : Dastkar Desert Crafts' Bazaar 2015.
Dastkar presents the second edition of DESERT CRAFTS - A vibrant celebration of traditional crafts and the cultural exuberance of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Hand-woven woolen stoles and home linen by the Vankar weavers from Kutch, Gujarat vie with the traditional cotton weavers from Rajasthan. The ancient block-printing techniques of Ajrakh & Dabu are given a contemporary twist by craftsmen-designers. Delicate patchwork & applique' form a maze of motifs and make for beautifully embellished garments & decoratives. The languishing textile craft of Tangaliya is being revived in Gujarat to remind us of the skilled craftsmanship.
The sweet sounds of Copper Bells from Gujarat, and hand crafted Wooden toys & puzzles from Rajasthan; Miniature paintings & Lipanmud and mirror wall decorations; Blue, Black and Terracotta pottery; all reflect the unique aesthetics of the Great Indian Desert!
Visitors can relish a delicious variety of regional food and beverages at the DESERT CRAFTS' Food Court.
Exciting folk dance and music performances over the weekends vow to make the event an enjoyable experience for the entire family!
Dastkar, a registered NGO working with crafts and craftspeople for over three decades, strongly believes in crafts as a catalytic tool for social and economic empowerment and earning. Dastkar is committed to breaking the barriers that separate craftspeople from mainstream urban markets, reviving and revitalizing both the craft and the community. Partnering with Delhi Tourism, it is developing the NATURE BAZAAR venue in Andheria Modh, in partnership with Delhi Tourism, as a hub for crafts, culture and natural products, linking South Delhi and Gurgaon.
