Event Description : To Commemorate 74th Death Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore : Chittaranjan Park Bangiya Samaj presents "Shesher Kabita" Bengali Play.

Synopsis : Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Shesher Kabita’is a  remarkable work which remains unique not only in his staggering oeuvre but also in all of Bengali literature, perhaps even in world literature. Seamlessly weaving together poetry and prose, the ‘Shesher Kabita’ celebrates the various facets of love- the joyous the playful the satirical, the sad.
An intensely romantic story that unfolds in the beautiful hill station of Shillong, The Shesher Kabita is  considered by many to be Rabindranath Tagore’s finest prose work.
Amit Ray, a young Bengali travels to Shillong to escape from the drudgeries of his middle-class existence, and finds himself ensnared instead in a web of passion and poetry with the elegant and enigmatic Lavanya. As the protagonists grow closer to each other in the unconventional love story, they also discover themselves- their strengths, their ambitions, their flaws and their follies.
The poignant yet effervescent Shesher Kabita poses the question of modernity in literary as well as social terms. Tagore’s answer to his detractors, who claimed that his talent had withered, the novel is not only about different kinds of love, but also about different ways in which love may be represented. This landmark novella has neither been mounted in its entirely in Delhi nor being staged by any Delhi-based theatre group or cultural body.
