Event Description : "Co-Existence : You/Me/They/Us" Public Art Installation to sensitize general public about the Environmental hazards and its influence being showcased in an Artful way by Artist Gopal Namjoshi

“Environment” refers to the relationship between humans and nature; in other words, it is not only about nature but also equally about the technologies, cultures and systems that are part of our society. “Environmental Coexistence” refers to a sustainable relationship between society and nature, and within that, human-to-human relationships based on fairness and cooperation.

Gopal in his work believes in the Gandhian vision of holistic development and respect for all forms of life; the belief is embedded as an  extension of the ancient Indian concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. It is in Sanskrit and when translated means that the whole world is just one single family. The whole existence is inter-woven and inter-twined.

In words of the artist “As I continue to investigate these “Ecological Conversations” in metal, and the junkyard I am surrounded with, my goal is to create a new dialogue and awareness about the things that we collect, consume, and discard .

And the expression / the experience those things give us , along with a pattern of stress with each consumption to consume more , in effect leaving more piles of Junk and complications. Vice - Versa the happy and content lives of those animals like Deers & Peacocks staying amidst nature, The meditative calmness with which they utilize the resources and give back to nature forming a Life - cycle .

This is what I want to achieve through this installation to allow for a more critical view of their value and basic simplicity we are losing out to consumerism and daily dose of stress in Metro."

Reconstructing the narration from scratched/broken/damaged/thrown iron objects to weave newer stories taking the forms of Peacocks, birds, humans, deers, insects and trees and the living world of all organisms and how well they CO-Exist and converse , Ecologically is what is well displayed through Gopal's art - installations.

‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care,”

The 2015 theme for World Environment Day is Sustainable consumption and production.
Let CO-Existence be the mantra again like our forefathers practiced for a progressive, upwardly moving Human civilization.
