Event Description : DelhiByFoot presents "Shaam-e-Sukhan: Time Travel with Poets of Delhi" A Cultural Heritage Baithak.
'Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular' - Aristotle
As rich and vast the history of Delhi is, so is its literary background. From being one of the backdrops of the longest known epic poem in the world, 'Mahabharat', to being the epicentre of Urdu poetry during Mughals, Dilli has seen it all amidst the rise and fall of empires.
The poets gave words to their musical thoughts across languages and dialects that came to the city or evolved here itself, resulting in the vastness and richness that our literature has.
Chand Bardai writing his magnum opus 'Prithviraj Raso', Amir Khusro giving new definitions to not just poetry, but language too and Urdu poetry reaching its zenith with Meer, Zauq, Momin and Ghalib, to name a few, depicts the depth and width of the 'literary river' that has been flowing through Delhi all these centuries!
So lets take a dip in this 'Dariyaa-e-Sukhan' and travel across the pages of Delhi's history with the timeless poets who made Delhi their home...
DBF in association with the folks at the Poet's Collective "Parwaz", will converge on 30th May, Saturday for a celebration of all things 'Poetry & Cultural Heritage'...
HIGHLIGHTS OF CULTURAL HERITAGE BAITHAK:
1) 'Sher-o-Shayari' session in courtyard of a nearly 160 years old haveli of Chawri Bazaar, experiencing the merging nature of history and poetry and its multiple interpretations through recital of couplets and poems.
2) Informal chat session of historical and cultural context with a poet's work.
3) You, the participants are welcome to recite your favourite couplets or even your own creations.
4) And where DBF is can food be far away!...So traditional "Delhi6" style 'Dinner Daawat' will keep us all happy & full!
5) Above all a surprise gift keeping in tune to the occasion for all participants!
