Event Description : "Music at the time of "Don quixote" music concert by Zarabanda
About the program: The first part of our concert will provide an overview of instrumental music at the time of Don Quixote. This extraordinary music has identical sense of modernity, search, innovation, extravagance and excitement that broke the balance and serenity of the Renaissance, opening it to the tension express in the Baroque period. The hard, select and minority spirit of Mannerism makes artificiality, affectation, difficulty or extravagance its aesthetic ideal, absolutely opposed to the Renaissance ideals of naturalness, balance, serenity, symmetry, order and moderation coming from the Greco-Roman antiquity. But the Mannerist aesthetic is, in turn, quite different from the Baroque naturalism. The second part of the program takes us to an entirely different world, which would, however, unexplained without the dicoverings and experimentation Mannerist. When François Couperin wrote that he preferred what it moves him than what it astonish him, he was summing up the general attitude of Baroque music, quite contrary to that of mannerism. Baroque music will discover, two centuries before the romanticism, the immense ability of music to convey emotions. Baroque music takes the forms and structures of theater to the musical performers making them to become actors, able to move the listener their troubles and feelings. A giant step that allowed the music reached his maturity. It seems that Baroque is the staring point for the music that man of our time feels like yours. (Alvaro MarÃas)
