Event Description : A series of iconic vintage photographs, this exhibition features the work of German photographer Karl Blossfeldt (1865–1932), who was a professor at the Royal School of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin for many years. Blossfeldt is recognised for his magnified plant portraits which pioneered a new artistic perspective, fusing scientific empiricism with sculptural form and design mechanics to reveal the underlying abstract forms, intricate patterns and exquisite detail of organic structures.

These photographs are historically significant in the development of modern photography, and modern approaches to photography in Europe, and entirely transformed the public’s perception of the natural world. Blossfeldt's work had a marked impact on Western art and architecture, and the aesthetics of natural structures were subsequently adopted in modernist design, art and architecture.


This exhibition organised by Tasveer is the first time photogravures from Blossfeldt’s landmark 1928 publication Urformen Der Kunst have been shown publicly in India.
