"nahin haal e Dilli sunane ke qaabil..
Ye kissa hai rone rulane ke qabil
ujaade lutero'n ne wo qasr uske
jo the dekhne dikhane ke qabil
na ghar hai na dar hai fakhat ek zafar
hai, bas haal e Dilli sunane qabil..!!!
On 10th May, 1857 the Indian sepoys(soldiers) in the cantonment of Meerut raised their guns. This time not to protect their ruler, but against him. If the entire nation would have joined the sepoys that time, we could have toppled over British East India Company. But British stifled the voice of the sepoys and the rule went from East India Company into the hands of the British Monarchy, resulting into the British Colonial Raj for next nine decades. The royal families were wiped out, the Mughal
princesses raped, and some forced to marry men not worthy of them. The last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, was deported to Rangoon even when he begged to be buried in the soil of his nation. But only because of the loss in 1857, after ninety years the nation rose up together to free their nation. No wonder we call the great mutiny of 1857 the first Indian War of Independence! The facts are everywhere, but the pain people when through has not been etched in words. Delhi Karavan will recreate the tale of 1857 through the eyes of the people who witnessed the atrocities of British and who burnt in the fire of this great rebellion. Come let’s cross over a century, and peep into the bruised yet brave heart of India.
Note: presentation will be done in Zabaan-e-Dehli, a mix of Hindi/Urdu
