Event Description : "Rabindranath Tagore - One Hundred Years of Global Reception" Book Release. 

When Tagore won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for his own English translation of Gitanjali (Song Offerings), he became the first non-European to do so, achieving immediate fame. The editors of this book had asked Tagore experts worldwide to narrate how the Bengali author was received from that day until our time. Their thirty-five essays arranged by region or language group inform us about translations, the impact of Tagore’s visits, and his subsequent standing in the world of letters.

Martin Kämpchen born 1948 in Germany. After a Ph.D. in German Literature from Vienna, he taught German language in Kolkata. Second Ph.D. in Comparative Religions from Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, where he lives since 1980 as a translator of Rabindranath Tagore's poems from Bengali to German. Dr. Imre Bangha is Associate Professor of Hindi at the University of Oxford. He studied Indology in Budapest and holds a Ph.D. in Hindi from Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. He has published English, Hindi and Hungarian books and articles on literature in Brajbhasha and other forms of old Hindi and Asian languages.
