Event Description : "2 Strokes" An Exhibition of Drawings & Assemblages by Prachi Aggarwala & Jitender Thorat.

2 Strokes is not only an exhibition concept but it is two different strokes or statements by two young artists in their own dynamic way. Jitendra Thorat and Prachi Aggarwala are making commentary through their creative languages on the contemporary society and the gender biases.

Jitendra Thorat for the last couple of years has been questioning the restriction and morals of the society on the issue of desires and women sexuality. Series of horses than to series of female nude posing awkward and provocative way lead his canvases until his forms have started getting diluted in the abstraction rather simplification of colours and strokes. His strength of handling various materials and non-materials without any inhibition shaped his individualistic language of expression. Maturing process of his art practice could be observed through the shedding away of access amount of colour, which is becoming monochromatic and Black & White. Jitendra often being questioned about the presence of nudity and crudeness of postures in the female figures, responds by questioning the emergence of and increasing trend of soft porn, sexually explicit images in day to day entertainment modes as well as the rape culture in the society.

Sensitive and young woman artist Prachi Aggarwala has been looking for imageries which can give shape to her anguish of being woman in the contemporary time. High Tension line towers appeared initially in her paintings as part of landscapes. Gradually the form itself slowly got merged in the women body to such an extent that, as if the woman unlike the mythological transformations has transformed her body as the medium of physical valour as well as helplessness as being objectified. This fantasy has gave the strength of standing straight in the public like a HT line tower and if at all someone tries challenge or even touch her being she can electrocute the violator.
