Event Description : "āvirbhāva : Exploring & Interpreting the cosmic energies" a solo exhibition of Paintings by Mystical Artist Annu Kalra.

Some of us are capable of tapping into artistic talent and transcending the ordinary. Annu Kalra is one such natural artist, exploring the symbiotic relationship between Art and Spirituality, expressing and interpreting commonly accepted iconography.. Ms. Kalra, a Media professional after passing out of LSR pursued a Masters degree in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University. “Annu is like an effervescent meandering spring that touches many lives and awakens them to their potential, and the divinity within”, said a film maker friend of hers.

She derives inspiration from the primordial universal force that resonates in every thought and every being in the world, and believes that it is the many forms of this cosmic truth that manifests through the vibrant hues and enigmatic waveforms of her work. The object of her work is to be a window to this mystical cosmic beauty, and unite the viewer with the universal consciousness. Whether her painting is of the serenity of Shiva or the fiery beauty of Kali, she feels she can only be grateful for having had the chance to paint it and definitely not take credit for it.

When questioned, Ms. Kalra said, “It may be incorrect to say that I choose the subjects of my paintings. It is the subject that chooses to be expressed through me. The universe gives me a peek into its magic and allows me to manifest some of it on the canvas”.

About her painting The Sema Dancers, she said,   “The soulful whirling of the mystic dervishes, manifests an all encompassing magnetic field of bliss, that absorbs all those touched by it, elevating them to the space of peaceful joy and tranquillity.”

Her paintings are mainly interpretations of the Divine and cosmic energies in the current context, like the Gaja Lakshmi,  “it affirms that every empowered woman is but a manifestation of Lakshmi herself, a blessing not just of love, but also stability and insight. The reason to show a slim waisted, light eyed and attired in contemporary outfit Gaja Lakshmi is to shift the mindset from 'seeing something holy in a particular form' to seeing 'all forms as holy'. "

“Annu’s art is like a window to the mystical cosmic beauty being expressed in vibrant hues and enigmatic waveforms on the canvas” says celebrated Fashion designer Dolly J. “To access her art is to connect with a daub of your own inner, energetic self.”
