Commemorating the Revolution and War of Independence
The revolution broke out in Hungary on 15th March, 1848 by students and the young intelligentsia. It grew into a war of independence from Austria, ruled by the Habsburg Monarchy. Many of its leaders and participants, including Lajos Kossuth, István Széchenyi, Sándor Petőfi, are among the most respected national heroes of Hungarian history. Since then, 15th March is a symbol of social renewal and endeavors to make the society a better place of existence.
