Event Description : Modern School Old Student's Association presents "The School" A Hinglish Play.

About the Play : ‘The School’ is the story of a clueless, hapless gent, Aarush Biswas, down on his luck and kicked out of every office he ever worked in. Fresh out of his latest job and supposedly under the influence of a mischievous friend, Aarush is led by the nose to believe that it is his schooling that has caused the misfortunes in his life. Thus, Aarush sets out to seek ‘refund’ of all the fees that he’s paid to the school during his lifetime.

But, the play takes an interesting turn when the miserly Principal refuses to give the refund and instead is led into conducting a re-examination of Aarush, to prove once and for all that Aarush is not a failure. What follows is a series of absurd exams by whacky self-absorbed teachers, where the student is determined to ‘fail’ while, the teachers are hell-bent on ‘passing’ him.

‘The School’ is an adaptation of a Hungarian play, ‘The Refund’, originally written by Fritz Karinthy, a renowned writer and journalist. It has been adapted for Indian situation by Deepak Dhamija of Shoelace Productions for MSOSA’s 51st Annual Theatre Production.

About The Director : Deepak Dhamija is Playwright, theatre director and founder of Shoelace Productions. He is involved in theatre for almost a decade and have written 4 full length productions and 2 short plays. His play “Confessions of a Poet” bagged Best Script award in Short and Sweet Delhi 2010, world’s Largest 10 minute theatre festival. His play “Kutte” was nominated for 6 

categories in Short and Sweet Delhi 2011. It also bagged best script award for the same. 

He is also a lyricist and wrote lyrics for the anthem song (for ADR) for 2014 elections. The song was launched by facebook and got around 3 million views. He also holds a degree from IIM Calcutta and worked in Private Equity industry before getting into professional theatre.
