Event Description : "The Digital Turn in Film Studies : Seeing films in New Ways" a talk by Ahmet Gurata.

Digital media not only alter the ways in which the films are produced, distributed and exhibited, but also the way we see, study and teacg cinema. Beyond open access database and archives, new digital tools allow us to analyze and visualize cinema in compelling ways. Focusing on some archives and research projects, the paper examines the impact of digital humanities on film studies. After a brief exploration of the idea of the archive and digital tools, some be traced. How can we navigate new pathways through big data and digital archives? What are the potential ways of collaboration and alternative ways of presenting new scholarly outputs? These are some of the questions that will be discussed in this presentations.

Ahmet Gurata is the chair of the Department of Communication and Design, Bilkent University, He holds a Phd from the London Consortium, which examined remarks and Cross- cultural reception in Turkish cinema. His research, film history and documentary. He is a member of Association of Film Critics in Turkey, and Contributes to number of publications.
