Event Description : Pro.Ject 2015.03 "Reversal Reality" an exhibition of Artworks
 by Tayeba Begum Lipi.

The show documents Tayeba’s meeting with Anonya, a member of the transgender community and her exposure to the odds of society. A constant comparison of their reversed experiences of childhood led her to confront her own notions and memories. The show reflects not just this constant comparison of two different childhoods, but also of the loneliness and rejection faced by a transgender.

The show will include two channel videos of 7 minute duration, created by Tayeba on this subject as well as two cascades made with razor blades. It also focuses on creating Tayeba as a parallel character to Anonya. Tayeba has tried to trace Anonya’ s life through the show, from a happy childhood to a growing isolation because of her physical condition, using the latter’s old childhood photographs. Anonya’s love for shoes, bags and cosmetics, like any other woman, is reflected in the shoes and bag created using gold plated safety pins. A reflection of her life, as well as a critique of all the pain and isolation she has been through, this series is a sensitive documentation of the self-identification of the artist as a woman with a transgender. It uses items from Anonya’s personal collection or preferences to show the razor sharp pain of her life, and yet perhaps the delight she would find in small things as well.
