Event Description : Delhi Karavan presents "Dastaan e Sultan Razia : The first female monarch of South Asia" Walk.

For several months, her face was veiled
—her sword’s ray flashed, lightning-like, from behind the screen.
Since the sword remained in the sheath,
many rebellions were left unchecked.
With a royal blow, she tore away the veil;
she showed her face’s sun from behind the screen.
The [lioness] showed so much force
that brave men bent low before her.
(Amir Khusrau)

Sultan Raziya was the first woman ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, as well as of South Asia, yet her rule and death are covered in obscurity.
Very little is known of her except her so called liason with Yakut an Abysinnian slave
Mrs Rana Safvi who has read extensively on her will try and debunk the theory and put paid to tales of romance.
Asif Khan Dehlvi who has a past connection to Sultan Raziya would like to think he was Yakut.
An interesting time while our walk leaders explore the truth and myths surrounding Razia.

About the Venue :
Only huge bouldered walls remain of what was once a grand palace Qila Rai Pithora. Imagine a whole city extending from Lal Kot to Malviya Nagar of today and beyond. The city had thirteen mighty gates out of which few like Barkha and Badayun gates survive. Today Qila Rai Pithora a heritage park with lush green lawns and walking trails. On a fine sunny morning such as we greet these days, one can lay a picnic basket and lie down eyes closed dreaming of times and regality this place once enjoyed all under a shady tree

Note : Storytelling will be done in zabaan e Dehli Hindi/Urdu
