Event Description : "Aman Ka Ailaan" A Secular Cultural Festival On the occasion of 67th anniversary of Gandhi's assassination
SAHMAT proposes to commemorate 30th January this year, the day, 67 years ago, Mahatma Gandhi fell victim to bullets fired by Godse, by reminding ourselves why Gandhi was murdered and of the urgent need to continue to defend secularism in our country. To mark the day, a black badge marking the date and time of his martyrdom (30.01.1948, 5.17 pm) designed to be worn as we observe a few minutes of silence, and postcards carrying artists’ images of Gandhi on one side and words by Gandhi against religious fundamentalism on the other side.
Thousands of such Gandhi cards are being posted all over India in collaboration with the All India Forum for Right to Education ( Bhopal, Nagpur, Chennai, Mumbai and other cities). In Delhi several schools including Springdales, Blue Bells, DPS etc. & students from colleges and JNU are going to post these on 30th January.
