Event Description : The Korean Cultural Center, India has organized this exhibition showcasing art works of Korean photography artist Kim Kyung Sang from Korea.
“Arirang” is a Korean Folk song and also the most popular Korean song. When was the song written? No one knows for sure, nobody knows the date. But according to some scholars the song might have been written 2000 years ago and has continued and been shared from one mouth to another. There are many versions of Arirang but the three most popular versions of the song are: “Jung Sun,” “Mil Yang,” and “Jin Do.”
Since 1979, Artist Kim Kyung Sang has walked a single path with documentary works pursuing anthropological spirit. His works can be categorized into 3 themes; love and concern for the marginalized in poverty and agony, spirit of holy doers for humanism, trace of Korean Folk culture.
Kim Kyung Sang is well known for his lifelong dedication to documentary photography, specializing in the religions of many countries. He was assigned as an official photographer for Pope Francis’s apostolic journey in Korea this August. He also worked in Asti, homeland of his holiness’s namesake, and in Daughters of Divin Zeal in Sicily Island’s exclusively.
Under the theme of finding the spiritual origin of Korea, his projects have been conducted mainly with 'Arirang Project. This exhibition is a collection of photographs which has been taken keeping in mind the antiquity and sentiment of the song Arirang. His photographs captures traditional Korea as well as other scenic beauty that represents Korea. Some of his photographs actually capture scenes of Jin Do Island from where the “Jin Do” version of Arirang came into being.
