Event Description : An exhibition of Artworks by Italian artists Isabella Ducrot and Andrea Anastasio.

ISABELLA DUCROT creates delicate textile works using fabrics collected during her extensive travels across South and East Asia, where she has been returning to from Italy for over five decades. Her practice is invested in understanding the structure of fabric, and the way it can in turn symbolize the structure of the individual mind and of society at large. In her writing, Ducrot casts the warp and the weft as male and female elements, brought together in harmonious union in the making of textile.
The current exhibition will mark the artist’s first exhibition in India. Ducrot will be showing pieces from both her Bende originale and Bende sacre series, as well as other recent works. In the Bende originale series, fine Tibetan gauze is applied to paper. The result is a grid-like web—as fine as a spider’s, with the regular design of the scarf stretched or distorted by having come into contact with the object beneath. Bende sacre invokes repetition of pattern common in Ottoman art on precious textile.

The artist has also created a work specifically for GALLERYSKE’s space, spanning eighteen metres in length.
Ducrot has had several major solo exhibitions in a practice that spans over three decades. Her most recent exhibitions include “Bende sacre” at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Rome (2014), “Vasi” at Galleria Monty and Co, Roe (2010), “Suoni sensi segni” at Piomonto Artecontemporanea, Rome (2010), “La matassa primordial” at Galleria Carlo Virgilio, Rome (2008) and “Russian Faces” at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York (2008). In 2008, the artist published “Text on Textile”, distributed by Syph Editions: a cahier that reflects on the nature of textile and weaving. In 2005, MetroNapoli commissioned Ducrot to create two mosaics in Naples’ Vanvitelli Station. The artist lives and works in Rome.

Andrea Anastasio’s wide-ranging practice – which encompasses design, sculptural installation, and photography – also takes inspiration from his time in India, where he has lived intermittently since 1991. As a part of the upcoming show at GALLERYSKE New Delhi, the artist will be showing photographic prints depicting the storage of textile, as well as vases made of Murano glass, woven through with thread, an intriguing marriage of material. This will be GALLERYSKE’s third project with Anastasio; the first in Delhi.

Anastasio’s recent solo exhibitions include Checkpoint at Luisa Della Piane Gallery, Milan (2014) and an exhibition at Galleria Corraini in Mantova (2014). His project, Crossbreed, has been shown at Danese, Milan (2012), Atelliers Aperti at Museo Archeologico, Orvieto (2010), Artisti a palazzo, Gagliano (2010), Presque rien III at Laure Genillard Gallery, London (2009), Dritto E Rovescio, Milan Triennale (2009). Prior to focusing on his art practice, Anastasio designed for Artemide, Memphis-Milano, Design Gallery-Milano, Sawaya & Moroni and Danese. The artist has been in residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston in 2004, 2005 and 2008. The artist lives and works in Naples, Italy.
